Let’s break this down a little bit. Yes, it is not your job to teach other people’s children “how to deal.” And yes, words only have as much power as you give them. And the parent in question may have handled this situation really rudely in which case your anger is totally valid.
But…when in public you are expected to behave in a way that isn’t bothersome to those around you. For instance, if someone was smoking around you and you don’t like smoke, you’d be bothered by that. If you were on the bus and someone was playing loud music that you don’t like, or having a really annoying phone conversation, you’d be bothered.
A lot of people are bothered by the word Fuck. You don’t have to avoid saying it, but you do have to recognize that you might be bothering people.
You can defend your right to act however you want in public, but that’s a really selfish attitude.
